We decided to buy MaisonRose almost 5 years ago and it is ultimately a special story. Like many, seeing the end of our professional careers, we wanted to consider a life at least partly in the sun. We have always lived in Dijon in Burgundy (France) and at the same time we often have the impression of having been around it, of knowing each lane, we are often tired of its foggy, humid and really cold climate in winter. But it is our city, we have friends there, memories, habits and it is at the same time a very beautiful city and a magnificent region. So the south, the sun, the mild winters, but if possible, not the wind, not the summer rush, not the suffocating urbanization. And also an affordable budget.

How did we look at many beautiful places?

So we explored a few destinations that we loved during our vacation: Portugal, Crete, Italy, the Cycladic Islands.

Portugal was interesting, but in the end, we dismissed it after several conclusive visits, because of the temperature of the ocean. Even if it means settling down by the sea, you might as well be able to bathe there. However, on the Lisbon side, the water rarely exceeds 20 ° C.

Crete has us much more, we have been there several times. Air connections are frequent and active all year round, the prices quite affordable. We did not find the place of our dreams, nor in the Cyclades where we had nevertheless spent a beautiful holiday. What works well for a few days in the summer may not necessarily be suitable for a more durable installation. For us, these places were too dry, almost desert. We are used to green and dense forests, abundant vegetation. So exit Hydra, Mykonos, Chania. We also wanted to be surrounded by sites steeped in history, cities offering museums and a cultural life. By dint of searching, spending a lot of time on real estate sites, I discovered Corfu where we had never been.

GoogleEarth is a magical tool, which allows you to visit unknown places almost as if you were there. We walked down the small road that leads from the house to the beach, watched the view from the property over the sea and the forests of olive and cypress trees. We were amazed by the luxuriance of the vegetation. The weather forecast indicated that temperatures varied from +/- 8 ° in winter to +/- 30 ° in summer, that the water never went below 12 ° to stay for long months above 25 °.

Above all, located on the west coast of the island, MaisonRose is quiet, with no neighbors, no visible house. But it is only 15′ from the heart of Corfu-city and the airport. And this airport serves practically all the countries of Europe in season. Flight prices are affordable and the companies that serve it are constantly enriching their traffic. You will find it hard to believe, like the real estate agent who told me that in his entire career this had never happened to him: we made an offer which was accepted without ever having been to Corfu nor visited the Villa.

A delightful surprise

But, it happens, fortunately : she was even more beautiful in real life than in the photos! A very well built house, with materials salvaged from an old hotel in Athens.

A garden with green grass all year round, an infinity stone swimming pool which overlooks the coast. Varied fruit trees that offer us delicious lemons, oranges and kumquats, the island’s specialty.
